Cable is a new full-stack electricity retailer based in Sydney. We deliver "firm" (the same price, 24/7, bespoke to each customer) electricity supply at 20-40% lower cost than incumbents. We achieve this by installing a fully-funded and managed behind-the-meter battery coupled with an advanced technology platform.

Our solution has a structural cost advantage over legacy "TradRetail" system designs. We are the energy company built for the distributed age, and are uniquely positioned to accelerate the re-platforming that is occurring as our energy systems become inherently distributed and decarbonised.

Our product-oriented early team has shipped an MVP and is now building out our production-ready, scalable platform vision. We're an AI-native company - everyone works with the latest AI tooling as a core part of how we ship; even our marketing work is done mostly in the terminal. We have an ambitious roadmap to match. We are looking for exceptional full-stack engineers ready to build with AI at speed and supercharge our company's capabilities.

What you'll do

Own full-stack systems end-to-end — from data model and APIs through to the UI — across the breadth of what Cable is building: our quoting engine, customer onboarding flows, installer tools, and our in-house energy OS (billing, battery & charging optimisation, trading & risk mgmt) designed for the distributed electricity age
Build with AI at speed: lean heavily into AI-driven development, agent orchestration, and the broader AI tooling stack as a core part of how you ship — we're looking for engineers operating at Yegge's L6 or higher (multiple parallel agents, custom workflows) and pushing further
Integrate with multiple APIs to automate customer, data and operational workflows
Work with high-volume, time-series metering, market, weather and other data to deliver analytics and insights
Make practical decisions across tight timeframes to ensure an evolving secure, scalable architecture that makes sense for hundreds of customers, while preparing to serve millions in the future
Collaborate in tandem with our energy and product specialists — who are also hands-on in the codebase — and other engineers to rapidly deliver and iterate

Our stack

We're early enough for you to materially impact our technology choices. We're building on a modern stack — TypeScript, React, Vercel, Postgres — and we run the latest AI tooling end-to-end across our development workflow. We know good engineers will pick up new languages and tools.

About you

Excitement: We're doing our life's work and want to work with colleagues who are as excited about Cable as we are.
Experience: 3+ years experience shipping code at either a top startup or a larger company with high standards.
Expertise: deep understanding of the modern full-stack software stack, with the ability to own systems end-to-end and ship across the full surface area.
AI-native: you actively lean into AI-driven building and orchestration, and treat AI tooling as a fundamental part of the way you work. You're excited to push the frontier of what's possible with these tools.
Bonus expertise: large-scale time-series data, and knowledge of billing/accounting systems or transactional data models.
