Electrician - Cable Energy
About Us
Cable is a new full-stack electricity retailer based in Sydney. We deliver “firm” (the same price, 24/7) electricity supply to our customers at 20-40% lower cost than incumbents. We achieve this by installing a fully-funded and managed behind-the-meter battery coupled with an advanced AI stack.
Our full-stack solution has a structural cost advantage over legacy “TradRetail” system designs. We are the energy company built for the distributed age, and are uniquely positioned to accelerate the re-platforming that is occurring as our energy systems become inherently distributed and decarbonised.
We are backed by Australian and European venture capital funds, and a series of high-profile individual angel investors. We are abnormally well funded for an Australian company at this stage of the journey.
Cable Centre of Excellence
In every local region in which we operate, we will have at least one senior electrician in-house . Borrowing a name from software groups, we call this our Centre of Excellence (”CoE”).
The CoE, as a team, ensure we are able to scale our installation processes, maintain great relationships with our installer network, and ensure the highest standard of installation and O&M quality amongst our fleet of batteries. The team will:
Onboard, train, and monitor our 3rd-party installation partners;
Manage remedial works and maintenance - including, where not serviceable by a partner in a timely manner, doing this work in-house;
Where we have excess demand over our installation capacity, completing new installations ourselves;
Work closely with our manufacturer partners’ local operations & support teams to enhance our relationship and ensure excellent outcomes for our battery fleet; and
Be our local-market ambassadors for the installer partner relationships that are vital to our success.
Each member of the CoE will be an exceptional electrician. They may not have many years of experience - we value raw capability and ambition over experience. They will be able to deliver work to the highest possible standard, and have the people skills to bring others up to their level.
Role overview
This is our first hire in the CoE and one of our first 5 hires in total. You will be tasked with building out the foundations of our in-house field service capabilities. We expect our CoE to expand considerably as our business evolves; this first hire will play a fundamental role in the success of this team.
The ideal candidate will combine experience leading installations on <100kWh batteries with inherent attention to detail, work ethic, and leadership skills. You’ll be expected to complete and sign-off on jobs. You’ll also be expected to work with our product, engineering and operations experts to design & optimise our installation and O&M operations, where we have bold ambitions. You’ll spend your time both on the road and in the office. You’ll have a van, and also a laptop.
We are on a mission with enormous measurable impact: your success here will move the needle on Australia’s national decarbonisation trajectory.
What we offer
A collaborative and supportive environment with a small, exceptional team with high performance expectations, and meaty problems to tackle together. We work hard, without ego, and with shared vision of the generational company we’re building together.
Exceptional personal growth & development - ownership of stretch roles and outsized responsibility as we scale fast.
Support by leading advisors and experts with deep expertise.
Competitive salary and ESOP with extraordinary financial upside.
What you’ll do
In the first phase of our business, as we bed down our design specifications and installation operations / quality control processes, we will do a higher share of installs in-house than we will as we scale. For the first 3-6 months in this role, you’ll:
Lead the work on some of our installations (15-20 resi sites p.m.);
Be involved in most or all of our Site Inspections, alongside someone from our operations team;
Solve any remedial electrical works issues that arise;
Work with our earliest 3rd-party partners to refine our processes and software tools that make it easy for them to hit our standards and grow their business;
Contibute to the definition of Cable’s installation standards - over & above the minimum Australian Standards requirements; and
Get familiar with our Hardware OEMs and engage priority technical support as required.
As our business scales, we will lean harder into our 3rd-party partnerships, at which point this role evolves:
Monitoring network performance and quality control;
Training our partners in Cable’s design principles (working closely with our manufacturing partners);
Managing O&M for our battery fleet.
Nurturing our on-the-ground partner relationships.
This role remains geographically focused on the Sydney Metro area and nearby.
You’ll work closely with other members of our team. We are building software to optimise everything we do. Your input into the software design & development process will be key to ensure we’re delivering tools that drive value for us and our partners.
You’ll communicate clearly and effectively. You’ll demonstrate exceptional professionalism at all times, without losing the human touch. You’ll be capable of being firm with our partners where boundaries must be drawn, while also having an authentic interest in their success.
